Wow, That's
a Lot of Money!
Hands-on training for civics/government and economics teachers.
Participants play the "Penny
Game" (a federal budget overview) and "Taxation
With Representation" (a mock Congress) during the one-day
training. Participants receive and learn to use The
Concord Coalition's Social Security and federal budget booklets.
The program is aligned with California and other state curriculum
standards. It also includes nine literacy (thinking/writing instruction)
activities.
LEGAL (Legal Education Generates
Active Learning)
Hands-on training for civics/government teachers. Participants
do the Puttin on the Robes, Exploring the Legal
Process simulation and walk through all three levels of the
court system (trial, appellate, supreme) during the training.
Additionally,
any high school student can compete in the annual Moot Court competition
(held annually in October) at the courthouse in Martinez (see below).
ECONO (Economics Classes
Open New Opportunities)
Hands-on training for economics teachers. Participants play The
Econogame® (a market-economy-in-the-classroom simulation). Aligned
with California, National and other state economics standards.
Moot
Court – The High School Appellate Program and Competition
Moot Court is an appellate argument program and competition that we've
created with help from the Constitutional
Rights Foundation (CRF). Using a specially-developed excerpt from
a recent and important U.S. Supreme Court case, students write briefs
and argue them before a three-judge panel of volunteer judges and
attorneys.
